Surgery of the Aorta and its Major Branches

The aorta is the main blood vessel that arises from the heart and is responsible for carrying blood from the heart to all parts of the body. It is mainly divided into the Aortic Root, the Ascending Aorta, the Arch of the Aorta, the Descending Thoracic Aorta and the Abdominal Aorta.
When the aorta becomes dilated due to disease, either of the walls or due to the turbulence secondary to aortic valve disease, it needs to be repaired or replaced.
